Pump House Gallery
Battersea Park, London

July – October

The library was originally commissioned by the Pump House Gallery, Battersea Park, London. Two hundred books were exhibited at the gallery while the artists were in-residence in October 2002.

Prior to the exhibition, the artists visited Battersea Park, St. George’s Hospital, Wandsworth Libraries, Tooting Graveney Day Centre, and Battersea Park School to interview people about their imaginary book.

The exhibition received funding from Regional Arts Lottery, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The Elephant Trust, and Arts about Wandsworth.
Visitors’ Comments

The unwritten books were remarkably moving and rich. It is a wonderful thing to be able to unleash the lives of those we live with but never know. The man walking past me in the park who looked like a lost soul may have just poured out his hopes and memories in this room – fantastic.

Thoughts just linger on. Here’s a chance to say something – GREAT.

Fascinating and absolutely necessary. Makes every thought as important as the next.

Makes you want to write a book. Inspirational.

This is a truly wonderful library! An 8th wonder of the world maybe…

This is life printed, which is more powerful than fiction.
